This is a web page consisting of an overview and two illustrations of practice on the GeogSpace website, a resource for teachers. The illustrations relate to the Geographical Inquiry and Skills strand of the Australian Curriculum: Geography. Illustration 1 investigates how the inquiry approach is fundamental to teaching and engaging in geography learning and practice. Illustration 2 looks at map creation and interpretation, graphing, communication and writing, and decision-making skills as they relate to geography.

  • Illustration 1: Developing an inquiry in Years 9-10 geography and Illustration 2: Skills in Years 9-10 geography provide a diverse range of activities related to the content descriptions in the Geographical Inquiry and Skills strand of the Australian Curriculum across years 9 and 10.
  • The resource contains recommended readings and classroom illustrations to support teachers in understanding how to develop a geographical inquiry in years 9 and 10. It also contains resources supporting a range of geographical skills, and geographical applications of those skills, relevant to the Geographical Inquiry and Skills strand.
  • This resource can be used by teachers to help them develop suitable resources and teaching practices that, in return, will assist students to frame a geographical inquiry, undertake appropriate research and analysis, determine potential impacts and make sound decisions in years 9 and 10.
  • The resource supports the general capabilities of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability, Critical and creative thinking, Personal and social capability, Ethical understanding and Intercultural understanding.
